One of the latest skincare trends is the use of facial oils. I was intrigued by this because as a teenager and well into adulthood have struggled with breakouts. Why would I ever want to put an oil on my face? That’s insane! Turns out that the use of lipids or oils is one of the best ways to penetrate the cellular structure of our skin and they don’t all clog your pores. Stripping moisture from your skin can be counter-productive. When you strip moisture it can cause your sebaceous glands to over produce to compensate and cause breakouts.
One of the stars leading the way in skincare right now is tamanu oil and it is a multi-tasker, let me tell you. It originates from trees in the Calophyllum family in Polynesia. The oil is pressed from the nuts of the trees and put into all kinds of cleansers, serums, and facial oils. Tamanu oil diminishes acne marks, hyper-pigmentation (age spots), scars, fine lines, and wrinkles. It is a miracle for aging skin that still has breakouts as well as young acne prone skin. Because lipids can penetrate the dermis you are left with beautiful, clear, hydrated skin without an oily residue.
There are so many other oils of course used in cosmetics, but this one is a gem and can do so many things at once!
